We have lots of new things this week so this will take a little while to gather.
Wooden Spoons – a pair each or if you have claves a pair each
Big Plastic Bowl for Drumming – one each
Teddy Bears – lots
Play food – anything that resembles play food, a basket for putting them in (a big bowl would do), plastic little bowls and spoons – we are going for a picnic. If you want to give them real food just keep is really small and basic and quick to chew. Preferably play food. Great time in class to ask for signs for favourite
Frogs – any frogs you have or even a picture. Please can you dress the children in green so they can be frogs.
I’ve attached a picture of 5 Speckled Frogs you could print out and put on sticks which is lots of fun.
Parachute / or light fabric you can both hold – I don’t expect people to have parachutes but I know a few people have them. You can use a big light piece of fabric for this. I can’t use my parachute on screen as the microphone picks it up and it messes with the sound quality. So I will use a big floaty scarf.
Squirrel – if you have one or a picture. Not particularly important.
Frog Instruments – of any kind. I have frog guiros. I don’t expect anyone to have this so a wooden spoon and bowl will do nicely or 2 wooden spoons or 2 wooden things that you can tap together.
Ducks – whatever you have or picture is great, see attached.
Blanket – for quiet time AND for our picnic.
Bubbles – we will use most weeks, if you don’t have any you can make your own there are lots of different recipes online. This one is particularly easy. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/how-make-bubble-mixture
Peekaboo Scarves – anything you can do good peekaboo OR swishing side to side so we can explore speeds
Some Class Guidelines
Please try not to have too many distractions in the room.
Children do like to get up, run around during class, this is normal. I don’t expect them to sit down and just join in like perfect angels!! That’s just not realistic and actually sometimes they go and get something we think is nothing to do with the class that they sit with now completely engrossed or just listening. So coming in and out of class is very normal. As long as they are happy and joining in lots of the time that’s brilliant. For those that haven’t done much screen time it takes a bit of time so give them a couple of weeks to get used to it.
Try to use the biggest screen you have.
Very importantly, YOU MUST JOIN IN TOO. As in a group class but it’s even more important on a screen class as they look to you for reassurance and confidence.
Lastly, if you have any feedback during the term please share with me. Doing the class at home is quite different and If something doesn’t work just let me know.
For Example: one of the mums fed back last term that it would be much easier on her side if bubbles were at the end of class as her little one wanted them continuously after we used them, so we adjusted, it’s not a problem. You might even find that they want to continue the activity we’ve just finished and to be honest it’s magic to see someone still being the train whilst we are singing the next song as it proves they are really getting it.
